Phantom Quartz is formed by a transparent, pure quartz crystal growing around other quartz crystals and minerals. Phantom quartz receives its name as one is able to see a smaller image of the quartz crystal inside the larger quartz specimen. Hematite, the red crystal inside the phantom quartz is made of Iron and has been used as pigment for centuries, as far back as in prehistoric cave paintings. This phantom quartz cluster was mined in Zambia.
