Named after Labrador, Canada, the region where the mineral was originally discovered, Labradorite is a type of feldspar that is found in large crystal masses in Anorthosite. According to Inuit folklore, a warrior found the Northern Lights trapped in the rocks along the coast of Labrador. The warrior was able to release some of the Northern Lights by breaking the rocks with his spear. The rocks that remained with the Northern Lights trapped inside is what is known as Labradorite. These labradorite freeforms are from Madagascar and have been polished by hand.
