A translucent yellow-green color, Prehnite was the first mineral to be described from what is now known as South Africa. The description came in 1788 by Colonel Hendrik Von Prehn, who discovered the mineral. Prehnite also has the distinction of being the first mineral named after someone, receiving its name from the aforementioned Colonel Prehn. This rare prehnite freeform has a complex quartz and black tourmaline matrix and has been polished by hand.
